About this role

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS (USA). The Department of Pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), both principal teaching affiliates of Harvard Medical School and founding members of Mass General Brigham, is seeking an academically oriented faculty pathologist with established skills in clinical chemistry and interest in clinical/translational research to join an outstanding team of academic medical directors as the Medical Director of the MGH Chemistry Laboratory.

Key Requirements

  • The position will be based primarily at the MGH, a 999-bed hospital within the Mass General Brigham network. The MGH Chemistry Laboratory performs roughly 13 million tests annually. Clinical areas of responsibility and laboratory oversight will include blood gas, automation, serology, and mass spectrometry, and may be focused on one or more of these areas based on the candidate’s experience and interests. The Medical Director will play an active role in the daily operations of the Chemistry Laboratory, including clinical consultation, assay selection, development, and implementation, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance; and will be involved with the education and training of rotating Harvard Medical students and pathology residents during their Clinical Pathology rotations. Applicants should have an MD, PhD, MD/PhD, DCLS, or DO degree and be Board certified or eligible in Clinical Pathology, combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Clinical Chemistry or equivalent. Additionally, they should have a strong record of training, clinical experience, and academic scholarship in a Chemistry discipline.
  • The combined Pathology Department of the two institutions is staffed by more than 200 faculty members and approximately 100 residents and clinical fellows in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in a predominantly subspecialty-oriented model. The environment at Mass General Brigham and Harvard Medical School provides substantial opportunities for clinical/translational research within the Department of Pathology and through collaborations with investigators at multiple affiliated institutions.
  • Applicants should be committed to excellent patient care, as well as research, scholarship, and effective teaching. Academic appointment at the Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor rank at Harvard Medical School and salary will be commensurate with credentials, experience and accomplishments. The salary for full-time employment for this position ranges from $200,000 to $315,000 per year, not inclusive of incentive compensation or benefits.
