- Waterfront Director
Description
Berkshire Trails Camp is seeking a responsible, experienced, and safety-focused Waterfront Director to oversee all waterfront operations during the summer season. This seasonal leadership position plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, well-organized, and enjoyable waterfront experience for campers and staff.
The Waterfront Director is responsible for supervising a team of lifeguards and waterfront staff, managing daily waterfront operations, and maintaining strict safety standards in a busy lake environment. The program includes motorboat activities such as tubing and waterskiing, as well as kayaks, pedal boats, sailboats, inflatables (including a water trampoline and slide), and general free swim periods.
While the Waterfront Director is not required to be a certified lifeguard, previous lifeguarding or waterfront experience is strongly preferred. This role requires an adult leader who is confident, attentive, and proactive, with the ability to enforce safety protocols, properly position lifeguards, ensure correct fitting and use of life jackets, and respond calmly and effectively to emergencies. The Waterfront Director works closely with camp leadership to maintain compliance with camp policies, ACA standards, and local safety regulations.
Requirements
- Must be an adult with the maturity and judgment to manage a high-risk activity area
- Previous waterfront, aquatics, boating, or lifeguarding experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of waterfront safety procedures and risk management
- Ability to supervise, schedule, and position lifeguard staff effectively to maintain camper safety
- Knowledge of proper life jacket fitting and enforcement of personal flotation device use
- Experience or familiarity with:
Motorboats (tubing, waterskiing, general lake operations)
Kayaks and pedal boats
Sailboats, including stepping and unstepping masts
Waterfront inflatables such as water trampolines and slides - Ability to enforce rules clearly and consistently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to remain calm and decisive during emergencies
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and positive waterfront culture
- Availability for the full summer camp season
